140 minutes (three class sessions)
Student
Population: 22 students, between the ages of 17 and 18, both male
and female. All students have had a basic introduction to the Shakespearean literature
and a few examples of the ongoing influence Shakespeare continues to play in modern media.
16 students have an advanced knowledge of the given material, 4 students are at an intermediate level and 3 students
are proficient and show a basic understanding.

the presentation of material, students will understand the modern influence of classical literature

understand that many of the current media surrounding them is a derivative of classical literature, in this case, Shakespeare’s
influence on the modern cinema. Along with this knowledge, students will use
technology to collect and present their findings to the rest of the class.

Criteria
for Evaluation
Each group will find 5 modern (after 1950) movies
that were originally based on Shakespearean plays
After search is completed, each group will create
a PowerPoint Presentation utilizing sound, images, etc, to show how the current media and the Shakespearean content intersect
and also how they differ.

Presentations
Students within their groups will present their
PowerPoint slides and information
Will be assessed as a group in regards to time
limit, preparedness, collaboration with peers, the PowerPoint itself and the student’s attentiveness to the other group
presentations.
Closure
A class discussion will be facilitated about the
presentations themselves as well as the information contained therein. Who did the class feel had the best information? Who had the best presentation? Was the
activity useful? If yes, why? If
no, why not? Would the class recommend this activity for the following year’s
class? |
Differentiation: Required for each section
-Students will write facts on the board
-Students will also be broken into groups to generate
fact sheets
- Each group will find 5 modern (after 1950) movies
that were originally based on Shakespearean plays
-After search is completed, each group will create
a PowerPoint Presentation utilizing sound, images, etc, to show how the current media and the Shakespearean content intersect
and also how they differ.
-Some students can work on finding facts, while
others will work on the layout, background, etc. of the PowerPoint
-Still others can find sound clips, movie photographs
of the media mentioned
-Members of group can take on different tasks,
such as presenting more information orally, advancing the slides or handing out supplemental materials the group may have
created. |
Follow Up:
After using Shakespeare as an example,
the class will look at other major literary works and their impact on current media.
This will be a homework assignment and will be presented in class discussion form.
